The Value of a Healthy Home
Stewarding Health, Home and Habitat
Most of us spend 90% of our lives indoors. At Halsted Homes, we believe the air you breathe and the surfaces you touch should be as pure as the world outside.
Did you know that indoor air can be 2 to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air? From off-gassing carpets to hidden moisture and poor ventilation, the average home often works against our well-being. Modern "airtight" construction is great for energy bills, but without the right strategy, it can trap allergens, VOCs (volatile organic compounds), and carbon dioxide inside your living space.

The Problem: Standard fiberglass insulation can shed micro-fibers and often contains fire retardants that may disrupt hormonal health.
The Healthy Fix: We work with Havelock Wool to provide wool insulation. It is naturally fire-resistant and moisture-wicking, meaning it prevents toxic mold growth while keeping your home quiet and temperature-controlled.

The Problem: Standard panels and wall coverings frequently contain formaldehyde and harmful VOCs found in the glues and backing materials. Additionally, many acoustic solutions use synthetic foams that trap dust and can deteriorate, releasing micro-particles into your home's air.
The Healthy Fix: We source products from The Wood Veneer Hub because they utilize recycled felt backings and sustainably sourced wood veneers. Their panels are designed to be low-emission and eco-friendly.

The Problem: Traditional fiberglass and spray foam insulations often contain formaldehyde, VOCs, and abrasive glass fibers that can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.
The Healthy Fix: We use HempWool, a USDA Certified Bio-based insulation made from 90% natural hemp fiber. It is completely non-toxic, VOC-free, and safe to touch with bare hands. It is naturally moisture-regulating and mold-resistant.

The Problem: Many wood products used in home construction and furniture are treated with harsh chemical preservatives, heavy metal stains, or finished with high-VOC varnishes. These substances can "off-gas" into your home for years.
The Healthy Fix: We partner with All for Wood because they prioritize natural, untreated, and sustainably harvested timber. By using wood that is free from toxic industrial coatings and focusing on breathable, natural finishes.
